Writing and Explaining Thesis Chapters (Chapter 2)
Chapter 2 of the thesis titled “literature review” which critically and comprehensively review the relevant and other literatures related to research study topic that can build and synthesize knowledge and information with establishing conceptual and theoretical frameworks which give backbone on the research study. The introduction of this chapter must be written as summary which give the reader clue, ideas, and understand the content of this chapter with developing themes and subthemes of the literature review.
1- Conceptual framework creation
- 1- Conceptual
framework creation:
Creation of conceptual framework in thesis
must be by researcher idea, concepts, and models related to research study
which been having relationship between them. This can provide blue print about
the research process which work as clarification, guidance, literature
connection, analysis facilitation, and visual representation.
- 2- Development
of theoretical framework
A theoretical framework is base line that
gives full view of understanding and analyzing the research study. A
theoretical framework is set of theories related to the study with connected
assumptions, concepts, and ideas to help in understanding the study phenomenon
and dimensions by defining the scope and boundaries of the research which
played as road map of the research by guidance to research method, data
collection, interpreting and analysis approaches. Also, theoretical framework
essential for understanding a phenomenon, research questions developments,
utilizing appropriate methods, and interpreting the research findings.
- 3- Comprehensive
literature review of the research study
A comprehensive literature review defined as critical
synthesis and analysis of specific research topic with summarization of
previous studies to identify the gap, controversies in knowledge, and trends in
research which help the researcher to situate the research study and
demonstrate understanding with highlighting the contribution of the research. The
literature review organized and divided when themes and subthemes developed. Themes
defined as simple topic, central, ideas, universal ideas and researcher view
point related to research study which indicate the deep meaning of the research
work and simplify the ideas to reader.
- Critical analysis by evaluate and assess
the strength, weakness, bias, and validity with reliability of research study.
- The research studies which been reviewed
must be synthesized with summarization and identify the relation with themes of
your research.
- The researcher must identify the gaps which
need to do further research studies.
- The researcher must provide the rational for the study by demonstrating the relevance and contributions to the knowledge existed.
- The literature review must contain definition of research questions, development of search strategies with explaining the databases used, evaluate, synthesize and analyze the selective research studies, organizing the review and present the findings.
Each university having specific guideline related to
writing thesis, this is general overview related to chapter 2 writing.
