Criteria for thesis or dissertation writing and differences
Introduction:
Thesis or dissertation
is part of master and doctorate graduation both of them are part of a long form
of academic writing with many deference’s which must be understood from the
students when start writing thesis or dissertation. (Thesis vs. Dissertation,

Definition of Thesis:
Thesis is
scholarly research work and must be critically written mostly requirement from
master students which recognize their knowledge and understanding related to
specific problem statements or research questions. (Thesis
vs. Dissertation, 2021)
Definition of dissertation:
Dissertation
is comprehensive research work with scholarly writing with requirement from
doctoral and Ph.D. students which includes all information about research with
expand topic by each division and chapters of the research. (Thesis
vs. Dissertation, 2021)
The deference’s between dissertation and thesis:
There are many
deference’s between thesis and dissertation writing which been as follows:
1- 1- As previously mentioned the thesis is for students studying master program but dissertation is for students studying Ph.D. or doctorate program.
2- 2- The length of
the dissertation is more than the length of thesis.
3- 3- When the
researcher completes his thesis, he will be had knowledge and clear
understanding about his research study on the other hand the student who
complete his dissertation will have good, comprehensive, and in-depth knowledge
and understanding about the philosophical paradigm, theoretical and conceptual
frame work, or contribute new theory in his field.
4- 4- The thesis prepare
the student to identify the information and research problem with purpose of
the research study in way to solve it and find solution with recommendation to
further research study, but for dissertation the process same as thesis but
more browed as the researcher build unique concepts and theories related to the
practice.
The similarities between thesis and dissertation:
The similarities between thesis and dissertation as follows:
1- Both of them been done as final project and graduation purpose for both programs which are master and doctorate or Ph.D.
2- Both of them required deep understanding and knowledge about the research topic.
3- Both of them required research questions or objectives with academic writing skills with avoiding plagiarism which need editing and proofreading.
4- Ethical consideration is part of both thesis and dissertation which must be done and performed for protecting rights of the participants.
5- Both of them required analysis and analytical skills for identifying the results and discuss it with finding the significance of the result which support the research study.
These are the deference’s and similarities for both thesis
and dissertation which must been considered when start writing and understand
it very well.
Components of thesis and dissertation writing:
The component of thesis and desperation somewhat similar but the deference’s
is the details and academic writing parts which will be discussed later for
each part. (Unc.edu,
2019).
1. First page
consisted of title page
2. Pages of declaration,
acknowledgments, copywrite.
3. Abstract
page
consisted specific number of words and explain the research briefly.
4. Table of
content, list of tables, list of figures, and abbreviations
5. Chapters which each chapter in order
identify and clarify the reader with research topic and solving research problem
which consisted of:
